Swans vs Club
Steedman vs Simpson 3/2
Gemmell vs Curtis 3/1
Kynoch vs Warner 3/2
Wall vs Chohan 1/3
Raju vs Clark 2/3
First on Clark vs Raju. Clark took the 1st game. Raju battled back in the 2nd . Clark’s inadequate service to the forehand was consistently disposed of by Raju’s volley kill throughout the match. Clark then started to hit the top of the tin when he thought he had won the point/s. 10/9 to Raju in the 2nd. Raju then took control, going 7/1 up in the 3rd. However, she failed to finish Clark off. Clark pulled himself together and levelled the game at 7 all, only to then lose 9/7. So, Raju had her chance. However, Clark concentrated his mind, improved his serves, provoked T-crossing wafts from Raju and took the last 2 games 9/1, 9/1.
I did not see Wall vs Chohan but I understand the power-hitting Chohan prevailed 3/1 vs the battling Wall. Warner took the first 2 games deservedly vs Kynoch. Warner simply played the better shots. However, as ever, Kynoch came back with lovely delay of shot and the occasional blistering backhand volley kill. 3/2 to Kynoch. Steedman vs Simpson ended 14/12 in the 5th. Slimline Steedman was more tired than his opponent but Steedman had played the better lengths throughout the match, apparently. Gemmell went 2 up vs Curtis. I started watching at game 3. In the third, Curtis put on a display of virtual perfection. Perfect weight and length of drives also struck with slight delay, exquisite lobs, attacking boasts, delayed front of court drops and reverse angles. Gemmell played well and made the rallies long but Curtis consistently outplayed him. However, although Curtis won that 3rd game, Gemmell had made the contest hard. In the 4th Gemmell took control and Curtis succumbed.
Best,
Andrew
