Swans vs Lansdowne Match Report
First on Wall vs Hazelgrove. English scoring chosen and bruising battle commenced with Wall narrowly taking the first. Meanwhile, on the Oxford court Curtis took on Chohan despite the former sheltering a hamstring niggle. Chohan had been warned of the Curtis forehand and volley but to no avail. Searing forehand volleys from Curtis as well as fractional delay on forehand generally had Chohan in trouble. Curtis also played useful attacking boasts, lobs and a series of delightfully disguised drops at the front of the court. 3/0 to Curtis. Next on, Goel vs Wildy. Wildy glided round the court at considerable pace and seemed to take the first 2 games with relative ease. However, something changed. Goel not only persevered but started to outplay Wildy with strong drives, backhand volley kills, repeated attacking boasts and some first class drops from mid court. A well deserved 3/2 Goel win in the end. Back on Cambridge Court Wall and Hazelgrove were still going at it hammer and tongs. After more than an hour Wall prevailed by remembering to play the occasional drop. Delights to come- Andvig vs Steedman. Superb play and movement from both players and Andvig took the first 16-14. Steedman came back in the second breaking up the rallies with a wonderful variety of attacking boasts, lobs and drops. This was high calibre squash. However, Andvig proved too strong in the end, winning 3/1. Lastly, Rowland-Clark making his first Swans appearance for a while proved too strong for the normally relentless Gemmell…3/0. A clean sweep for the Swans.
